Scope and Content

Letter to his parents from John Pendleton (perhaps Jack Pendleton, 1807-1895?). Sent from San Francisco, Sept. 14, 1850 or 1851 (date hard to make out). Letter is addressed to Capt. John Pendleton, Islesboro, Me., and after solicitous inquiries after the family's health and descriptions of his own health, discusses mining claims in California. Mentions Alfred and George Boardman, both "well and hearty as Bucks." Also mentioned are John P. Farrow and Isaac Thomas. He describes the sale of his cargo, save for 45 thousand feet of house frames, 200 bbls(?) lime, and 15 thousand bricks. Single sheet, written recto and verso at one end, the blank end folded over for the address. Letter is in a fine hand in ink, address side has penciled calculations in another hand.
