Flat metal strip 9 3/8 inches x 1 3/4 inches fits at right angles into wooden piece measuring 4 3/4 inches x 1 1/2 inches x 3/4 inch. A thin metal strip on one long side of this piece is attached to the wood by five screws. On either side of the wooden piece a shield-shaped design is inlaid.
