Description

The section is a steering runner with tiller attached. Runner section is 33 1/2 inches x 3 inches deep wooden timber. Iron runner is 28 1/2 inches long attached by bolts to timber. Tiller is attached to runner section by metal piece measuring 5 1/2 inches x 2 1/2 inches. Wooden handle 30 1/2 inches long x 2 inches tapering to 1/1/4 inches is fastened to a metal section which swivels. PERSONAL ASSOCIATIONS: This iceboat section was used first on a boat built, partially out of wagon parts, by Pyam Hatch in the 1920's or perhaps earlier. The second iceboat to use this gear was a boat built by Scott Rolerson as near to the Hatch original as memory of others could serve.
