Correspondence relating to Francis Grindle, father and son: Francis Grindel (Francis Lowell Grindel [alt. Grindle, Grindell, Grindall], b. May 15 1784, d. Jan. 14, 1857, father of J[ames] Francis Grindle, shipmaster, (b. Oct. 1842). Death date of the father and birth date of the son, as well as addresses, can help to determine which Francis Grindle is referred to. To Capt. Francis Grindle, Frankfort, Maine, [January?] 21, 1828, regarding one Capt. Hopkins, "a slippery fellow." To Capt. Francis Grindle, South Bucksport, from John James Jr.., Jan. 27, 1831, regarding the taking up of a note and news of a schooner run aground. Letter to Mrs. Louisa Brooks, addressed "Dear Sister," October 4, 1857, referring to money coming their way from their grandfather, presumably Francis Lowell Grindel, who died in January of 1857: "If you want mine, you can have it for I shall never touch it." Postmarked envelope addressed to Capt. J. F Grindell, North Islesboro, Maine, postmarked June 4, [18]66. No contents. To Captain and Mrs. Grindel, from Harry H.
