Description

This object contains 3 parts: (a) a rounded metal bottom 6 inches x 1 1/4 inches, containing on one end a partly oval depression 1 1/2 inches x 1 inch with a hole 3/8 inch in diameter 1/4 inch from the end. (b) a flat middle piece 5 3/4 inches long that fits into grooves in the bottom piece. The middle piece contains a corresponding depression and holes along 3 3/4 inches of its length (c) a top piece consisting of a small metal box 1 1/4 inches x 1 inch enclosed on four sides and the top but open on the bottom. Inside the bottom is a metal piece with sharp prongs. On the other side is a stong spring. The top piece fits into a groove on the bottom piece and is hinged so that the bottom can be exposed. To operate, a nutmeg is placed in the hole in the depression, the top piece is lowered over the nutmeg and the nutmeg becomes enclosed in it. The top piece is then moved over the middle piece, which then grates the nutmeg. The gratings are caught in the rounded bottom piece and shaken out for use.
