Description

Square, clear glass ink bottle. Base 2 inches x 2 inches, sides 1 7/8 inches x 1 1/2 inches, neck 5/8 inch high, 1 1/4 inches in diameter (outside measurment). Ink stopper. Neck approximately 1/2 inchs in diameter, 1/2 inch long, octagonal top with friction ridges on sides and approximately 1 1/4 inches in diameter. "Carter Ink Products" stamped on top. (Stopper top made of black wood, the stopper itself is made of cork.) SPECIAL SIGNIFICNANCE: Probably used in the Islesboro High School which accupied the present Historical Society Building until 1954. ORIGINAL INSCRIPTION:on front " CARTER'S NEW BLUE BLACK FOUNTAIN PEN INK." On left side "No. 246 CARTER INK PRODUCTS THE CARTER'S INK CO." On the right side "SAVES THE EYES BECAUSE THE BRIGHT BLUE COLOR IS BRIGHTER AND STAYS BRIGHT."
