Silk bodice, approximately 19 inches long in front and back and approximately 15 inches on the sides and approximately 34 inches wide at the bust. Sleeves are approximately 22 inches long and contain puffs at the shoulders and extend approximately 11 inches down the arm. (These sleeves are frequently referred to as "leg o' mutton" sleeves.) The bodice has a high neck with wide lapels approximately 6 1/2 inches tapering to 1/2 inch down the front. The lapels and puffs in the sleeves are black, matching the skirt (1992.023.001). The rest of the bodice is in green and black patterned material also matching the skirt (1992.023.001). Hooks and eyes and buttons secure the front opening of the bodice.
SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE: The bodice was worn in the fashion show at the Historical Society program in the summer of 1992.
DATE OF ORIGIN: In the middle 1800's
PERSONAL ASSOCIATIONS: Bodice belonged to one of two great-great aunts on her father's side (Clayton) who spent many summers at Hewes Point.
