Brass kerosene can 14 1/2 inches tall and 11 1/2 inches in diameter. Top cover contains a short spout and on the opposite side of the cover a large vent hole with 6 smaller vent holes surrounding it. The vents are raised above the top of the cover and are surrounded by a brass collar to prevent spilling;. A sturdy brass handle with a wooden piece that can be spun at will is attached to the can at the top and facilitates carrying and pouring. On the same side as the vent is a cup shaped attachment found close to the bottom of the can. This enables the person to pour with both hands supporting the can.
SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE: This can was used to contain the kerosene that was used to fill the lamp at the Grindle Point Light in Islesboro.
