Wooden box 9 inches x 9 inches x 2 3/8 inches. Open on top and bottom and one side. Closed on the other sides. Top side has a hole 5 13/16 inches in diameter. Bottom side has a hole 4 5/16 inches in diameter. One side has opening 8 1/4 inches x 1 1/2 inches. Two of the closed sides have hooks and eyes to enable the compass box to be fastened to the ship.
PERSONAL ASSOCIATIONS: Compass box belonged to Dick Steele's grandfather, Captain James Calvin Scott.
