One manicure kit consisting of a black leather case and containing 7 items.
CASE: Measures 7 3/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches x 1 5/8 inches with a cover that overlaps 1 inch and snaps to the case. Inside the case is room for 8 items (one missing): 2 on the back of the flap, 3 items in the bottom of the case, and 3 on the inside of the top of the case.
NOTE: All items are made of ivory, except the scissors and the blades of the knives, etc. All the handles are 3 inches long, except the scissors.
Underneath flap, 2 items. 1. metal nail file, blade 3 inches long and handle.
2. cutical cutter or pusher, blade 1/2 inch long, curved with cutting edge opposite curved part with handle.
In bottom of case, 3 items. 1. nail buffer, oval 2 inches x 1 inch at the widest and 1 1/2 inches in height. The buffer is in 2 parts: the top which contains the buffing material and a knob 5/8 inch high, and the bottom 1/2 inch deep into which the top fits. 2 and 3. identical round containers 1 1/8 inch in diameter, 1/2 inch tall with large covers that screw on, measuring 1 3/8 inches in diameter. One container has powder in it.
Inside the top cover, 2 items, one missing. 1. scissors, slender 3 5/8 inches long overall, slender, greatlly curved blades, used for trimming fingernails.
2. knife with single-edged blade 1 3/4 inches long, 5/16 inches wide with handle. 3. missing.
PERSONAL ASSOCIATIONS: Possibly belonged to a family member of Captain J. C. Scott (Dick Steele's grandfather).
