Description

A volunteer Red Cross uniform made of white cotton. A long dress buttons up the front, with long sleeves. Has two side pockets and a breast pocket with a Red Cross patch sewn on to it. Sleeves have blue cuffs and there are epaulets on the shoulders in matching blue. Belted at waist. Length = 40 1/2 inches; Waist = 35 3/4 inches; Sleeves = 24 inches. INSCRIPTION: Tag frayed, only legible inscription: REG. U.S. - Handwritten: Helen Pendleton DATE OF ORIGIN: circa 1917 - 1918; SPECIAL SIGNIFICANCE: This volunteer Red Cross uniform was worn by Helen Wilson Pendleton (Mrs. Mark Pendleton) as a young girl during WWI. She rolled bandages and knitted after school in Sharon, PA.
