C. D. Gibson plate, 10 1/4 inches in diameter covered with repeating patterns of stylized leaves in the two outer rings and stylized blossoms in the third partial ring. The contents of the rings are colored white and various shades of blue. The center of the dish contains a picture (pen and ink sketch) measuring
5 inches x 5 inches.
Description of sketch: A young woman wearing a long black dress with straps at the shoulders and wearing an upswept hairdo and a boy wearing a black suit are seated on a sofa. The woman is looking straight ahead and the boy is turned toward her gazing at her face. The boy's parents are standing near the sofa looking at them. His mother is wearing a long dress and his father a black suit.
Inscription at bottom of sketch: "Mrs. Diggs is alarmed at discovering what she imagines to be a snare that threatens the safety of her only child. Mr. Diggs does not share his wife's anxiety.
