Sled, 72.5" long, 17.5" wide, 7 7/8" high, consisting of two runners with metal runners screwed into the bottom. The runners are attached to top with 5 5" x 3/8" metal dowels (each side), each runner curved up to meet the "seat" at front. The "seat" consists of twelve 15.5" x 1"x 1/2" wood slats, rabbited into the 1"x1" side pieces which are c. 4" longer at the rear than the runners. The side pieces of the "seat" are held together front and back with nylon rope twisted with a dowel so that they may be tightened or loosened. Thus the the sled is flexible and steerable. Hemp rope
is attached at front to the two side pieces.
Scott says that it is a "Cape Racer" sled, made, he thought, by Morris Decker. It was used as a work sled and later by the children.
