From the set of tools belonging to and well-used by Frederick A Lee, master mason of Islesboro during the first half of the 20th century. See book "Summer Cottages of Islesboro" p. 119. This "paint brush" is 11.75" long, 6.25" wide, 1.125" thick, with wood handle, horsehair (?) bristles, which are bound to the handle by a 1.25" wide band of copper. There is a loop of cord at the tip end of the handle to hang it to dry. It was certainly used for brushing mortar, perhaps to clean off bricks or stones, or to brush on stucco.
