Description

Sextant in wood case, engraved "U.S.S.B." on the brass plaque on the case and on the sextant itself. Inside the case lid is the Certificate of Examination by the National Physical Laboratory dated April 1918. It is identified as "Sextent No. P877 of 6 1/2 radius named Heath & Co. Ltd, New Eltham, London". Also in the case is an instruction card, a pack of lens tissues, a lanyard, and a repair/cleaning receipt of 11-30-75 from Southwest Instrument Co. of San Pedro, California. The case measures 10 3/8" w x 9.5" d x 5 3/4" h, with a handle, catches, lock and key on the side The donor states that it was used on a ship of the Pendleton Fleet and identified it as a "U S Navy Mark 2 Micrometer drum sextant PG 393 Bonded" and as a "Drum Vernier Sextant.". Note on back: "From Charlie Pendleton (Hewes Pt.) 7-29-08 said to be from Pendleton fleet (ship?). (Capt?) (WWI?) Not to be given to the Lighthouse!!"
