Description

This buoy is probably a lobster buoy since it has a name and a license # carved into it. It is 50" long, consisting of a 34" long torpedo shaped wooden piece painted with two black and two white bands, a 1" dowel handle 13" long painted black, and a metal fitting at the other end of the "torpedo" extending down each side of the wood for 10" and forming a ring inwhich a smaller ring 4" in diameter is held. Carved into the wood on the side is "J.H.DODGE 052947". It was thought to belong to the infamous Hughie Dodge (Hugh Leigh O, Dodge 1915-1983 - see History of Islesboro 1893-1983 p. 264) and it may have been used by him but probably originated elsewhere in the Dodge family.
