Buoy, LobsterEntry/Object ID
2008.015.002Description
This buoy is probably a lobster buoy . It has a name carved into it but no license number. It is 24" long, consisting of a 20" long slightly tapered triangular wooden piece 3" x 3", unpainted, a 3/4" hole drilled through the smaller end, and a 1 1/8" rounded wood handle 4 3/4" long on the other end. Carved into the wood on the side is "B. F. HEAL". It was found in the house that belonged to "Benny Heald" (see History of Islesboro 1893-1983) who may have been a descendant of Benjamin F Heal (see Farrow History p. 224) whose children were born in the 1870s, none listed as Benjamin however.
