White linen wall hanging 23" x 21.5" handmade in filet crochet with white linen thread Given to Sue Hatch by Ethel Lee Wardwell and possibly made by Ethel's mother Caro E. Babbidge Lee, whose mother (also Caro E.) was daughter of Charles Chauncy Hatch. Ethel said it was made by Edwina Hatch, possibly the same as Caro E(dwina?) Hatch. Filet Crochet was fancy work of the 19th century in an age when gentleladies had or made time to make lace, tat, embroider, needlepoint etc. when they had time from household necessities like weaving and knitting.
