Hand-hooked rug depicting the Aldrich Cottage (originally built by Shattuck), given by Aldrich daughters Mary Homans, Liberty Redmond, Lucy Burr at the time of Burr Mitchell's retirement c.1973 from 49 years as Aldrich employee from part-time go-fer, gardener, then as Caretaker.

The Hooked Rug of the Winthrop and Harriet Aldrich House (formerly the Shattuck house, at the end of Aldrich Road)
Made by Mrs. R. G. Tolman, a rug hooker living in Camden, ME. She also made several other hooked rugs for the Aldrich family, two are in Edgar Bering's house on Main Road, one is in Liberty Redmond's house.
To the left of the house is the salt water swimming pool and behind that is "The Playhouse," currently the summer home of Lucy Aldrich Burr.
This rug was presented to Burr Mitchell c. 1973 by the Aldrich children: Mary Homans, Harriet Bering, Lucy Aldrich Burr, Liberty Redmond, and Alexander Aldrich in gratitude and honor of Burr Mitchell's 49 years of service to the family.
