Summary: 8 year old Midge Morris lives on a small farm near Ocala, Florida, in 1918. One day, everything changes when her mother falls ill during the Spanish flu epidemic, and the family moves to the historic Springfield neighborhood in Jacksonville. "Springfield, Jacksonville's first suburb" by Rita Reagan, p.304-308. The book is illustrated with historic photographs and postcards, and includes photographs from Midgie’s actual family album. Readers are able to see views of the actual locations, neighborhoods and houses Midgie saw in 1915-1920. The author based the character of Midgie on Miriam Morris Connors, the author's mother-in-law. Most of the events actually happened to her during her childhood.
