"Built in 1879, the Merrill House is one of the few formal Queen Anne structures to survive the Great Jacksonville Fire of 1901. It is historically significant as the home of James E. Merrill, whose company, Merrill-Stevens Engineering Company, grew to be one of the largest shipbuilding companies in the South." This project sought to restore and preserve the house as reflecting life in Jacksonville in 1903.
