Accounts of the trip of the Press Club to Florida to attend their convention in St. Augustine are interspersed with biographical sketches of the members and of some involved Floridians.
On January 14, 1896, 12 Rhode Island delegates representing 2 press clubs disembarked at docks in NYC and boarded a fast express train to Washington, D.C. They were attending the 11th annual convention of the National Editorial Association at St. Augustine, Fla. After a stop in DC, they boarded a south-bound train, stop in Charleston, stop in Savannah, stop in Suwanee, stop at Tampa Bay Hotel, Live Oaks for breakfast, welcomed in Jacksonville by delegation from St. Augustine, St. Augustine. After the end of the convention, majority took special train to Daytona, Ormond, and West Palm Beach. From thence returning home via Sanford, Ocala, Winter Park, Silver Springs and Jacksonville for a short stay.Collection
