Image of the "W.M. Tupper", Hull no. 89, built by the Merrill-Stevens Engineering Company as a cargo ship in 1917. The steamer cost about $300,000 to construct and was built to replace the "Theodore Weems" (she had been employeed with the "Brunswick" on the Tampa-New Orleans run and was sunk in late 1916). The "W.M. Tupper" was given her trial run in the St. Johns River on New Year's Day, 1918.Collection
