Description

Graham Building (also known as Heard National Bank Building or Florida Title Building) 108 - 110 W Forsyth Street Architect: John K. Peebles Completed in 1913, the Heard Building was the tallest skyscraper in Florida and remained Jacksonville's tallest building until 1926. It was built for John Hoseph Heard, a financier from Arcadia, Florida. This fifteen-story bank and office building, which cost ofver $1,000,000 to build, was faced with ornate terra-cotta, brick, and marble. The bank was forced to close in 1917. In 1982, the Barnett Bank demolished three of Downtown's most interesting buildings: the GD Jackson Building, the Ritz-Woller Building and the Heard National Bank Building. During the final phase of demolishing the Heard, a decision was made to retain the monumental columns that marked its entrance. These marble columns remained until 1988, when they were demolished to make way for the new Barnett Bank building. Notice Hotel Seminole along Forsyth Street looking west.
