Lynch Building (also known as the American Heritage Life Building and 11 East Forsyth)
NE corner of Forsyth Street
Architect: Pringle & Smith (Atlanta)
Complete in 1926 for Atlanta capitalist Stephen A. Lynch, this seventeen story building was one of the first skyscrapers built during the Floirda Land Boom (real estate bubble which lasted from about 1920-25). It was Jacksonville's second tallest building when completed, losing to the eighteen-story Barnett Bank Building. The Lynch Building cost about $1million dollars and is L-shaped, which allows all of the offices access to natural light, and ventilation. The facades of Main and Forsyth Street are highlighted with polychromatic terra-cotta panels.
American Heritage Life Insurance was founded in 1956, renovated the buildin gin 1962 and used as the home office for the American Heritage Life Insurance Company until the 1980s.
In 2003, The Vestcor Companies (a real estate investment company) completed renovations to use the building as an apartment complex. The building was renamed 11 East Forsyth.Collection
