The scrapbook used by the Progressive Readers Club a year after the founding in 1932 with letter and newspaper clippings included.
Long time president of the Progressive Readers, Anne Van Ness Brown, writes:
"Four Jacksonville ladies met each week to discuss books and interesting literary events, the group consisting of Mrs. John T. Maylott, Mrs. Joseph E. McCants, Mrs.. J.O. Schwaner and Mrs. Anne Van Ness Brown, who was elected Chairman.
Although no record was kept on these meetings, it is agreed that they began in the fall of 1932 and continued into the summer of the following year...
As the meetings proved very stimulating, it was decided to enlarge the group, and a delightful luncheon was held at the George Washington Hotel on August 31, 1933 with Mrs. Maylott acting as Toastmistress. Those invited, in addition to the original four, were Mrs. J.J. Emery, Mrs. J.H. Pratt, Mrs. Josephine K. Maner, Mrs. Leslie Jones, and Mrs. W. Shelley Humphreys..."Collection
