92 pages ; 16 cm Jacksonville Wheelmen's Club constitution, rules, officers, and members.officers by Wheelmen (Organization). Cover title: Wheelmen's Club. Club house: Forsyth Street, near Market. Printed and bound by Drew press. Any white male, over 18, of good moral character is eligible for membership. This club was originally organized as an unincorporated Association in the year 1896 as a bicycle club, and after some months established itself in permanent quarters in the Mohawk block on Bay Street between Newnan and Market. Here the scope enlarged, including bowling alleys, billiard and pool tables, reading rooms, etc. continuing in a flourishing condition with about 200 members until the great fire of May 1901 which destroyed all the property and effects of the club. Receiving $1500 from insurance as its sole assets, the following men helped to continue the club. They included:Mr. Locke, C. Lyman Spencer, Telfair Stockton, Mr. Emery, Mr. VanDeman, Mr. Buckman, Mr. White, and Robert Braden. They were finally able to reorganize the club as an incorporated body under the same name. In addition, they raised the needed funds to purchase a site and built a club building, taking possession Jan. 17, 1903. It became an institution devoted to athletic sports and games with social intercourse between its members.
