NW Corner of Forsyth and Laura Barnett Bank of Jacksonville This building, completed in 1898, is 105' x 55' and was built of solid masonry and Bedford sandstone. Barnett Bank was founded in 1877 by William B. Barnett and his son, Bion, with $40,000 in working capital. Within just four years, it became the largest bank in Florida. In 1888, the bank changed its name to National Bank of Jacksonville and in 1908 to Barnett National Bank. The Barnett Bank was one of the oldest banks in Jacksonville.
