Claude Nolan Cadillac Building and Garages, 1910s.Entry/Object ID
2003.001.047Description
1001-1009 North Main Street
Architect: Henry J. Klutho
The building was completed in 1912, Prarie-style design (compliments the City Engineering building across the street). The building had a projecting cornice, large plate gglass windowns and a bold interplay of horizontal and vertical lines.
Some of the original brick details on the Orange Street side of these garages exhibit the Prairie-style cross motif. The building occupies a prominent site overlooking Confederate Park and Hogans Creek, for which Klutho did a major rehabilitation project in 1929.
Many Klutho buildings have been demolished, although many others have been saved to be remodled beyond destruction.
