William Harrison "Jack" Dempsey (1895-1983) in Jacksonville, Florida standing in front of Fred Brooks Cigar Company in the 1930s. The cigar box in Dempsey's hand says HAV-A-TAMPA.
Dempsey began his boxing career in 1914 and was the heavyweight champion from 1919-1926.
Fred Brooks Cigar Co. was located at 1100-04 Hogan Street. The company sold wholesale cigars and tobacco, candies, fountain supplies and paper products. Fred P. Brooks was the President and C. Elmer McElvy was the General Manager (it is possible they are the two gentlemen beside Dempsey).
Dempsey referred up to five boxing matches in Jacksonville after his retirement in 1927.
