Description

Naval Air Station Jacksonville an experimental XP2V-1 naval patrol aircraft. This particular bomber, bureau number 48237, was the first P2V prototype ever built. This aircraft first flew on April 12th, 1945. The P2V "Neptune" was designed as a long-range land-based patrol aircraft, capable of reconnaissance, a light attack role, and anti-submarine warfare. The P2V type was in production for 17 years, ending in 1962 with over 1000 aircraft delivered. Reverse side of print is marked, "Paul V. Gardner Staff Recognition Officer Naval Air Advanced Training Command Jacksonville, Fla."
