This collection contains two autograph books originally belonging to Ms. Olive "PeeWee" Williams. Ms. Williams was an English immigrant living in Jacksonville, at 124 E. Adams St., during World War II. Ms. Williams was a volunteer hostess to visitors at the Jacksonville Salvation Army-Armed Services Center in charge of making tea for visitors, many of whom were young English airmen of the Royal Air Force, R.A.F. Many of the British airmen who visited Olive at the Salvation Army-Armed Services Center recorded their names in the autograph books with appropriate comments. Added poignancy comes from the subsequent penciled annotations beside some names of "killed", "MIA", and "POW."
Ms. Williams met her future husband, Peter Hawkins, while they both were in Jacksonville. Peter Hawkins was in the Royal Air Force and visited the "drop in" centre, where Olive volunteered.
Also included is a B & W photograph of Olive Williams inscribed, "All my Love, Olive.'
Also a newspaper clipping from an unknown Jacksonville newspaper with an article and picture, "Tea Pot is Souvenir of a Jacksonville Romance" and "Pot of Tea Aids Cupid in Uniting English Couple."Collection
