Camp Palm, Hot Springs, VA, Margaret St., Uedemann, MayDescription
Fourteen glass plates depicting various activities of the Uedemann Family. These glass plates were given to the Society by Duncan R. Sawyer. They were given to her as a gift by Judge J. May ( 1976-1978) in 1978. Mr. May was a photographer and writer for the Jacksonville Journal. He was not born in Jacksonville but was raised in the City by the Uedemann Family. The Family lived on 1804 Margaret St. Mr. May inherited the house and it was passed to his son Mallon May after he died. Judge J. married Nellie (1919-1973). The Uedemann family is buried at Evergreen Cemetery. It seems that the glass plates were owned by Edwin O. Udemann (1875-1954). He was married to Rita (1886-1938.) Edwin's parents were Alexander (1846-1902) and Prudence (1844-1914) and his brother was Alexander (1873-1899).
In 2012 Dr. Wayne Wood donated a collection of slides to JHS (2012.26.1). Comparing the slides with these glass plates, the staff realised some of the slides were the same as the glass plates. The slides are located in the Biographical Photo File.Collection
