Selected contents: September 1977: Second Spanish period log water pump, Duval County, Florida / William M. Jones, pages 110-120.
Abstract: The log pump was found in May 1960 on marshy site DU78x. The site was originally discovered by William Jones and a group of volunteers from Jacksonville in 1957. Later it was excavated by Jones and others under the sponsorship of Dr. John M. Goggin of the University of Florida. At first, it was thought to be from the British period, 1763-1783. But as time passed, evidence suggested that the site was established during the second Spanish occupation, 1783-1820. It was believed that the site was the house of the Punta del Cano San Pablo Plantation of Robert C. Maxey. The log water pump, found nearby, in the marsh, was part of that complex. A detailed description of the log pump is included.
Selected contents: December 1988: The agriculture of the early North Florida Indians / Charles W. Spellman (reprinted from November 1948 issue, vol.1: nos. 3-4)Collection
