History: On July 2, 1887, the Journal's predecessor, The Metropolis, was first published. Over the years, the newspaper operated under 2 other names -- The Evening Metropolis and Florida Metropolis. The Jacksonville Journal emerged on June 6, 1922. Under each of its names, the newspaper has chronicled the events of Jacksonville, of Florida, of the nation and of the world. The memorable front pages contained in this book recall the historic events of their time, and they reflect the newspaper's involvement in and with Jacksonville.
