Mayport Blue Jackets baseball team, the only team representing a military installation, played in the Jacksonville City League. They also competed in a second league called the Victory League. They did well in 1942 but 1st half of 1943 season not as well. By the end of the 1943 season there was a shakeup. Thus, for the 1944 season, the team had become a power house. Highlights players such as Charlie Stone who played for a Texas league, Gene Bearden and Harry Grubb who were under contract to the Yankees, Albert Fagetti who was under contract to the St. Louis Browns, and Jack Culveyhouse and Wilbur McCullough who played semipro ball in Jacksonville.Collection
