13 new crime-biters by Joe Pickett, Station Librarian. This was published in the Mirror, a base newspaper for the Navy community in North Florida published by the Public Affairs Office of Naval Station Mayport located in Mayport, Florida. It is noted on the photocopy of the typed article that it was submitted for publication on April 28, 1989. The article reports on a visit to the Library by thirteen preschoolers at the base library's story hour. Crime Prevention Officer Jim Henderson and McGruff visited on April 25, 1989 and talked about home security, use of emergency number 911 and stranger danger. Each child was photographed with McGruff by Dawn Wright. The names of the children are included. A handwritten notation advises that a photo and caption was submitted. However, no photo is attached to this article.Collection
