She helped deliver Varina Gaines son, Henry Nolan Gaines, Jr. Nan studied one year at Freedmen's Hospital School of Nursing in D.C. to satisfy the Fl State Board of Nurse Examiners. She graduated from Brewster in 1943 with an RN degree. Discusses in detail her other educational and professional pursuits.
