He was also involved with the NAACP Youth Council along with Rodney Hurst and Marjorie Meeks in Ax Handle Saturday, August 27, 1960 where a sit-in at a lunch counter was held. They were attacked by mob of white men on that day. The Florida Times Union failed to cover the protests or the attack.
