Grant-in-Aid Application for Old Springfield Post Office, 1881-120 East 8th Street, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida. 32206 Application to Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation Grants & Education Section, Gray Building, 500 South Bronough Street, Tallahassee, FL 32399 The Urban Ministries of Springfield, Inc. (UMC) purchased the former Post Office building in May 1998. UMC has been awarded a City of Jacksonville Community Development Block Grant toward the restoration of the building. This restoration is one of a growing number of restorations now under way in the Historic Springfield District. Executive Director: Rev. Gretchen van Aken. Constructed in 1928, the Post Office is an example of masonry vernacular architecture. Its wide interior expanses, hardwood floors, wooden columns, & proportionally spaced side windows make it suitable for housing UMS' physical activity based programs for children. The focal point of the building 's red brick front facade is its three arched windows. We are requesting funding to continue the restoration process. Includes project budget, attachment checklist, photocopy of images when PO, and photocopy of Daily Record article dated July 17, 2000 on Post Office becoming a community center.
