Amazon: About Patricia Vail: Much to my own surprise I began keeping a journal in 1996 as I was contemplating retirement from a career as a corporate lawyer for CSX, the transportation company. Wanting to try something "adventurous," I considered the Peace Corps for Seniors. It turns out there was such a program but for lawyers, operated by the American Bar Association and funded primarily by USAID. The journal that I kept notes in laborious detail the decision I made to participate in the latter program, ultimately being assigned to a position in Kazakhstan. I was able to bring with me to that far-away place my love of gardening, of art, of languages, and of kibitzing while hoping to be "part of the solution" for a newly independent republic.
My undergraduate major was in French (studied at the Sorbonne and had Jacques Chirac as a professor) earned in 1963 at Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA. In 1964-5 I spent a year in the Mississippi Delta as a voter registration maven. Marriage, children, divorce, law school, work, MBA - the usual but no journal till 1996.Collection
