Scope and Content

This collection is a compilation of the work of Virginia King. Ms. King lived in the Riverside area and made her life work to document the lives of the residents and the buildings in Jacksonville, FL. She collected the information in various three ring binders and privately published three volumes of her research. She also took photographs of various sites in the city. The collection contains all her research, the published volumes and the photos she took. These are black & white photographs of buildings and houses of prominent citizens which may be or have been demolished; 8" x 6" photographs of Old City Hall, Haydon Burns Library, Cummer Museum, Jacksonville Journal Building, Consolidated Building and Lynch Building; postcards; pamphlets for Riverside Hospital, Flagler, Florida East Coast, Jacksonville University, Garden Club, St. Luke's Hospital, Riverside Presbyterian Church, Independent Life, Courthouse Dedication and Municipal Yearbooks; lists of marriages, memorials, street named for people, children named for grandparents, old landmarks, houses and building-when built and demolished, owners, etc.; framed 1889(?) map which appeared in Times-Union Centennial edition.
