Liteky, Charles James, 1931-
Born in Washington, D.C. Feb. 14, 1931. Family moved to Jacksonville, Fla. Graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Attended Chipola Junior College and University of Florida before attending St. Joseph's Missionary Seminary, Holy Trinity, Alabama, Father Judge Mission Seminary, Brackney, PA, Holy Trinity Missionary Seminary, Winchester, VA. Entered Military Service in 1966 and attended Army Chaplin School. Assigned to Headquarters Co. of the 199th Infantry Brigade in Vietnam from April 1967 to Oct. 1968. Despite wounds, managed to carry over 20 wounded men to the evacuation site after a search and destroy operation. Left Priesthood in the 1970s. Became an activist against U.S. Policy towards Nicaragua. Recipient of the Medal of Honor which was retured to the government as a protest, only recipient to return the award....Florida Memory website
