Three Skynyrds die in crash.
Ronnie Van Zant, the lead vocalist and guiding light of the Lynyrd Skynyrd rock group of Jacksonville, and 5 other persons were killed Thursday night when a chartered plane crashed in a swamp in Souhwest Mississippi. Others killed were guitarist Steve Gaines, his sister Cassie, a backup vocalist; Dean Kiilpatrick, the group's personal valet; and the two pilots, William John Gray and Walter McCreary. Six members of the band were injured, four critically.Collection
