The Whetstonian by Maura Wolfson-Foster.
"Dorothy J. Thomas meeting Walter Whetstone" . I first met Walter Whetstone in June, the summer of 1957, at the Jefferson Street pool. ... I lived in Dinsmore Pickett. The only way from there was to catch a Trailway or Greyhound bus into town. I was working at a restaurant at the age of 14, making salads, so my mother allowed me to go into town on my day off. ...We courted for a year and half, then in November, 1959, he was drafted into the Army. We were married in his mother's house on 3211 Pippin Street. Then he went to Texas, from there he flew to the base in Paris, France. Two years later, when Walter finally came home, negroes were allowed to sit in Hemming Park." --- Dorothy J. Whetstone.
"This is just a small tribute to the friendship I have developed with the Whetstones since February 2009. It began with my curiosity about the buildings located just off North Jefferson Street, in downtown Jacksonville, [in LaVilla area] Florida. First floor used to be called "The Stardust Lounge. Ray Charles was a frequent visitor. It was built in 1927." Maura Wolfson-Foster.
Photos: Walter Whetstone -- Walter and Dorothy together, both on page 7.
