Scope and Content

WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services) National, founded in 1978 by Jeannie Harrington Dicks, is an organization dedicated to collecting, preserving and passing on the stories and traditions of women serving in sea services. WAVES National name was changed to Military Women Across the Nation in 2015. Florida First Coast WAVES Unit 38 was formed in 1987 to provide an opportunity for locating, communicating and associating with former WAVES of Florida; provide assistance in establishing local units and a medium of exchange between WAVES National and its local units; and to promote contact with other WAVES organizations. Florida First Coast WAVES Unit 38 disbanded in 2015. Florida First Coast WAVES Unit 38 Presidents: Dorothy Enochs January-May 1987, Geraldine M.
