They were colleagues of Jose Huau, the local Florida leader of the Cuban resistance in 1893-1898. He and Harris were Jacksonville aldermen at the same time.
Jax connection: In 1886 Josephine Smallwood Gibson Harris (mother of 4 siblings) and family moved to Jacksonville probably caused by Leonard's business activities. He had 5 patents concerning acetylene. He founded the Aurora Acetylene Company with Hugh Partridge and ,in 1902, moved it to Chattanooga, TN. They lived at 1241 Hubbard Street (formerly 1414 Hibbard Street). In 1895, Edward G. Harris, deputy tax collector working at the Duval County Courthouse, I.L. Harris worked as a real estate agent, and Thomas H. Harris was the manager of the Jacksonville Cycle Company located at nw corner of Maine and Monroe Street. By 1899, all brothers are working at the Jax Cycle Company and living at 1414 Hubbard Street.Collection
