Scope and Content

The collection contains items relating to the activities of the Fairfax Manor Property Owners Association, between the years of 1995 and 2007. The association was formed to address drainage and traffic problems in the Fairfax Manor neighborhood. Series 1 contains information on various projects related to these two problems. Series 2 is grant materials that reflect possible funding opportunities to address public works projects. Series 3 contains petition results for some of these projects. Series 4 contains tax records and associated property evaluations. Series 5 contains documents on various city planning projects. Series 6 contains meeting minutes, membership information, and event flyers. Series 7 contains general correspondence, and correspondence related to traffic problems, and drainage problems. Series 8 contains newspaper clippings, the Fairfax Flyer, and magazines.

Context

This organization was established on June 9, 1997 as a direct response to drainage and traffic issues that they identified in a two-year-long traffic study, from 1995-1997. The first president was John McCraine and and Jan Harbeson was the first vice president and later the president. The committee petitiioned residents on the problems they faced, and established the org to address the issues to advocate for the residents, specifically targeting high traffic areas, the intersection of Woodmere and San Juan and San Juan and Herschel. The residents specifically compained about drainage from Fishweir Creek, Creek remediation project with the Army Corps of Engineers. Petitions to the city for funding, including grants. Traffic bumps were installed, beauficuation for the park on Herschel Street, by 2007 still doing beautification project. Does not seem to be active, as of 2025.
