The Jacksonville Coliseum was dedicated on Thursday, November 24, 1960. The program for the dedication states that "Jacksonville has responded to a long-felt need for an indoor arena for sporting events, industrial shows and conventions." It augmented the Gator Bowl and Baseball Park.
The main building was 312 feet in diameter, the main playing floor was 115 feet by 205 feet, allowing for 50,000 feet of exhibition space for industrial shows and conventions; and was 105 feet tall at the center of the dome. The building was fireproof and completly airconditioned. The three main entrances have a total of ten ticket windows. The building contained 11 concession stands. The seeating facilities can be expanded from 7800 to 11500 depending on the event, which could be: boxing, basketball, wrestling, ice hockey and concerts.Collection
