Operation Peter Pan was a secret 1960–1962 exodus that brought over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children to the United States. Organized by the Catholic Welfare Bureau and the U.S. government, parents sent their kids away fearing false rumors that Fidel Castro’s regime would strip parental custody.
